To use the Macintosh version of the Acrobat Reader program, you need:
• A Macintosh® Plus, SE, Classic ®, LC, II, PowerBook ™, Centris™, Quadra™ , or newer Macintosh
• Macintosh System software version 6.0.5 or greater
• 2 megabytes (MB) of application RAM
• An 800K or Apple® SuperDrive floppy disk drive
• A hard disk drive with at least 7.5 MB of free space for installation; 3.5 MB of disk space is used after installation
• A PostScript™ printer or other Macintosh-compatible output device
Note: If you are using an Apple Personal LaserWriter® NT printer, see the Acrobat Reader READ ME file for important information.
INSTALLATION:
The Acrobat Reader Installer installs the Acrobat Reader program, on-line guide, and tour, the ATM™ software and Type 1 fonts, and the Type Reunion™ software.
To install the Adobe Acrobat Reader:
1. Turn off or remove any virus protection or system-security software.
2. Restart your Macintosh.
3. Insert the compact disc in the CD-ROM drive. A compact disk icon appears on the desktop.
4. Locate and open the Reader Installer folder on the compact disk. Then double-click the disk icon named Installer-Disk 1 in the Acrobat Installer folder. The disk window appears on the desktop.
5. Using TeachText or any word processing application, open the Reader READ ME file for the latest information about using the program.
6. Double-click the Acrobat Reader Installer program icon. The Acrobat Reader Installer title screen appears.
7. Click OK to continue. The Acrobat Reader Installer license agreement screen appears.
8. If you accept the license agreement conditions for the Acrobat Reader software, click Accept. The Acrobat Reader Installer dialog box appears.
9. Choose one of two options:
• Click Install to install everything from all the disks.
• Click Customize to select specific items to install; a dialog box appears, prompting you to select individual items to install. Select the items you want to install, and click Install.
After you click Install, a dialog box appears that prompts you for your name, the name of your organization, and the serial number of the Acrobat Reader program. If your serial number is already entered there is no need to enter it again.
10. Enter the requested information, and click OK. The Installer begins copying files to your hard disk. Follow the instructions that appear on-screen to complete the installation.
11. After installation, turn on or replace any virus-protection or system-security software that you turned off or removed in step 2. You may have to restart your Macintosh to turn on the virus-protection of system-security software.
12. Choose Restart from the Special menu to restart your Macintosh.
HOW THE ACROBAT READER INSTALLER INSTALLS TYPE 1 FONTS:
Where the Acrobat Reader Installer installs Type 1 fonts depends on your version of system software. System 7.1 places both outline font files and bitmapped font files in the Fonts folder . System 7.0 and 7.01 place outline font files in the Extensions folder and bit-mapped fonts in the System file. For System 6, the Installer places outline font files in the System Folder and bitmapped font files in the System file. The Acrobat Reader Installer installs Type 1 versions of the Helvetica*, Times*, Courier, Symbol, and ITC Zapf Dingbats font families. If the Acrobat Reader Installer finds TrueType versions of these fonts (or potentially conflicting Type 1 fonts) in your System Folder, it removes them and places them in folder called De-Installed Fonts.
